Public Resting Event

The Resting Room

"Treating each other and ourselves with care isn't a luxury, but an absolute necessity if we're going to thrive. Resting isn't an afterthought, but a basic part of being human."

Tricia Hersey, Rest is Resistance: A Manifesto

On Sunday 7th July 2-4pm join artist Luminara Florescu in resting at the Create@#8 space. This is an invitation to spend some time doing nothing.

From July 1st to 5th, artist Luminara Florescu will be the Artist in Residence at Create@#8. During this period, she will develop a performance based artwork titled The Resting Room, which delves into the essential need for rest as an antidote to Capitalism and a society that equates hyper-productivity with self-worth. This project builds on Luminara's Rest As Protest project, developed during her DYCP Arts Council Funding period in 2022-2023, inspired by her personal experiences of Burnout and Chronic Fatigue.

EVENT

From July 1st to 5th, Luminara will observe a vow of silence and spend time resting in the space, either alone or with other invited artists, while enjoying a cup Somerset Lavender tea.

On Sunday, July 7th, 2-4pm, Luminara will open the space to the public for a Public Resting event, inviting members of the community to take time to slow down and rest.  Come at 2pm and leave when you feel ready. Please bring a blanket, pillow and something to lie on (yoga mat, sheepskin etc). This will be a silent event - suggested age 16+
