Osip, a cosy, farm-to-table restaurant in Bruton, has been named one of the UK's top 100 dining spots at the National Restaurant Awards. Recognised at the Estrella Damm National Restaurant Awards, Osip secured the 64th spot, celebrated for "putting the Somerset town of Bruton on the culinary map."
Osip is a cosy, farm-to-table restaurant seating just 30 guests which secured the 64th spot among the top 100 restaurants in the country, outranking notable London establishments like The Grill by Tom Booton at the Dorchester Hotel in Mayfair, which placed 92nd.
Founded in 2019 by chef Merlin Labron-Johnson, Osip distinguishes itself by not offering menus. Instead, it serves fresh, local produce sourced daily from two nearby plots of land.
This approach means a meal could feature anything from farm vegetables or chilled tomato tea as a starter, to trout and wild garlic or lamb with ewes' yoghurt and preserved walnut for the main course. Desserts might include a strawberry tart with soft meringue and strawberry sorbet, or pear sorbet with bay leaf oil.
The drinks at Osip are equally unique, with wines from small-scale, sustainable winemakers, local ciders, and homemade soft drinks, juices, and ferments made from wild and homegrown ingredients.
The restaurant was awarded a Michelin star in January 2021, with the Michelin Guide praising its dishes for their "effortlessly assured, understated elegance."
