Fiona Campbell's solo exhibition is the culmination of a 3-week art residency, where she developed work as part of her Arts Council England 'Developing Your Creative Practice' award.
Held in a large empty shop space 'Create@#8', Shepton Mallet, Fiona has transformed it into a gallery for the show. The exhibition is open Mon-Sat, 11-4, until 25 March. The artwork comprises contemporary sculptural installations (suspended and free-standing), drawings, textiles, collages, prints and sketchbooks. A soundscape enhances the experience, created in response to Fiona's work by Ushara Dilrukshan.
Venue: Create@#8, 8 Town Street, Shepton Mallet BA4 5BG
Visitor comments include:
'Stunning new exhibition by Fiona Campbell.. launched today, which really takes advantage of this new gallery space. Both the building and Fiona's work are deconstructed and reconstructed into thought provoking and inspirational new forms, immersed in a mesmerising soundscape by Ushara Dilrukshan.'
'I really enjoyed discovering your work… being able to turn the pages of your sketchbooks, see your process and walk around your wonderfully poetic installations.'
'Fabulous exhibition. You've made a gallery of evocative, found, salvaged things. Love the hanging down and reaching up... Hanging from the ceiling, touching the ground … on the walls… occupying the space. Organic materials… weave up and around and through… and reach down.. to connect to the ground with purpose.'
'Beautiful work using nature and recycled elements to portray something deeper. Really enjoyed the music in the background too, fitting the tone for the pieces.'
'Very thought provoking and beautiful in an unexpected way'
Alongside Fiona's exhibition at Create@#8, she will be running an Eco Sculpture Workshop on Saturday, 18 March, 2-4pm. Spaces are limited so book soon:
