Shepton Mallet Town Council has announced the complete closure of the public toilets on Commercial Road due to repeated vandalism. This comes after an earlier partial closure, which had left one regular unit and one urinal available for use.

But additional vandalism over the weekend has led to the decision to shut all facilities at the site until at least the end of September.

In a statement, the council explained that the extent of the vandalism requires "extraordinary cleaning and maintenance efforts" and that during the closure, they will be exploring measures to prevent future incidents.

A spokesperson for the council expressed regret over the situation: "We understand the frustration this may cause and are working diligently to resolve it as quickly as possible. Our priority is to repair the damage and put in place measures to prevent this from happening again."

In the meantime, residents and visitors are advised that the public toilets in Collett Park will remain open daily from 7:30 AM to 4:15 PM, including weekends. The council has apologised for any inconvenience caused and appreciates the community's understanding and patience during the repairs.
