Poppy appeal collectors have been touched by the generosity of people in the Shepton Mallet area, who donated thousands of pounds in this year's appeal.

The generosity of Shepton Mallet residents and neighbouring villages, including Doulting, Oakhill, Cranmore, Dean, Pilton, Croscombe, and Evercreech, led to an impressive collection of over £28,000.

This year's figure notably surpasses the previous record set in 2018, the centenary year of the end of the First World War, when SMRBL raised £25,000.

The significant sum raised is especially commendable given the current cost of living crisis, highlighting the community's unwavering support for the cause.

Andy Ransom, Chairman of SMRBL, expressed profound gratitude to the individuals who contributed to this achievement.

"A huge thank you to each and everyone who donated or were part of the army of volunteers led by our Poppy Appeal Organiser, Jan Crewe," he said. "While it is impossible to name all the volunteers, their collective efforts have not gone unnoticed, and their contributions are deeply appreciated."
