Two fire appliances from Shepton Mallet and the rescue tender from Glastonbury were sent to an RTC involving a vehicle that had rolled, and the driver was trapped inside. Crews arrived on scene with the Police and Ambulance, and got to work stabilising the vehicle while paramedics assessed the casualty.

Crews used small tools to rescue the female driver, who was taken into care of the Ambulance service. Crews made the scene safe and duty of care was left with the Police.

Location: Elbow Corner, Easton Lane, Pylle, Shepton Mallet

One fire appliance from Shepton Mallet was mobilised to a car on fire. On arrival crews confirmed the vehicle well alight and shortly requested assistance of a second appliance for extra water and personnel. This also came from Shepton.
Crews put the fire out using one main jet, a thermal imaging camera and hydraulic cutting equipment. The vehicle was believed to be abandoned and set alight deliberately, so the Police were informed. The vehicle was completely destroyed in the fire.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service received reports from our colleagues at Avon & Somerset Police of a two vehicle Road Traffic Collision where one person was believed to still be trapped.

On arrival, the Incident Commander confirmed a Road Traffic Collision involving two vehicles where there was one person trapped within the vehicle.

One fire appliance from Castle Cary attended a fire within a domestic chimney. Crews put the fire out using chimney rods, small tools, one hose reel jet, ladders and a thermal imaging camera.

Duty of care was left with the occupants.

Location: Old Wells Road, Whatley, Frome

Blue Watch Fire Control received a call from the occupant of a domestic property on Old Wells Road, Whatley, who was concerned there was a fire in the chimney of their house. One appliance from Frome was immediately mobilised to investigate.
On arrival crews found the chimney was well alight and requested a second pump for assistance, so Control mobilised the second pump from Frome station.
The fire was involving the chimney of a woodburning stove within a two storey domestic dwelling. Initially working with chimney equipment from the hearth, crews also used a triple extension ladder, roof ladder and safety at height equipment to extinguish the fire from the roof.
At approximately 14:30 crews believed the fire to be out, so monitored the chimney using a thermal imaging camera until satisfied there were no hotspots remaining.
Fire crews left scene at 14:45.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service received a call reporting a fire at the above location.

On arrival the incident commander confirmed a tumble dryer on fire within the property. Crews got to work with two breathing apparatus, one hose reel jet, thermal imaging camera and a safety jet to extinguish the fire.

A seven-year-old from Eastover Primary School, has won a county wide Christmas card competition, for her design encouraging more people to foster children in Somerset. Pupils at Selworthy School won the over-12s category, and also a special group award.

Cllr Frances Nicholson said: "I'd like to offer my heartfelt congratulations to the winners and to all the young people across Somerset who took part in the competition. We had so many fantastic entries and the work produced was beautiful. It's very encouraging to see young people embracing the idea of 'helping others in their community' and we hope their work will encourage others will be inspired to come forward and support 'Fostering in Somerset'."
