Location: A361 at Doulting, Shepton Mallet

2 fire appliances from Shepton Mallet and Wells attended a 2 vehicle RTC, which resulted in one person being trapped in one of the vehicles.

Fire crews worked alongside Ambulance paramedics to stabilise the vehicles, and then the casualty inside, before performing a roof removal, using hydraulic cutting equipment, in order to extricate them. Crews made good and steady progress confirming at 16:38 that the casualty had been released and left in the hands of paramedics. We then made the vehicles and scene safe, before leaving duty of care for the incident in the hands of the Police. The incident is now complete and brought under control at 17:12hrs. A review of the school structure in and around Ilminster and Crewkerne is underway to ensure it can continue to deliver a good-quality of education for pupils in the long-term

The review has been commissioned by Somerset County Council which has been in discussion with local schools about the need to look at different ways forward.   The review is underway and is considering the pros and cons of alternative structures, taking into account factors including the educational impacts and outcomes at each key stage, the impact on pupils with Special Educational Needs, early years provision (pre-school and nursery), staffing implications, transport costs, impact on communities and available funding to make changes.

Location: Porchestall Drove, Glastonbury, Somerset

The fire service were initially called to a small fire involving wood shavings.
One crew from Glastonbury were initially sent.
On arrival the crews located fire and discovered that the fire was within a hopper.
Additional resources were requested. One pump from Street, One pump from Shepton Mallett and the aerial ladder platform from Bridgwater attended.
The fire was involving a building measuring twenty metres by five meters approximately three storeys high of a timber and metal construction. The fire was located in the bearing assembly of the hopper which was destroyed and had spread to wood shavings and dust collected in the hopper and its extraction system.
Crews used three thermal imaging cameras, one flexible camera, one hose reel jet and a light portable pump.
The fire was extinguished and safety advise given.

Location: Silver Street, Stratton on the Fosse, Shepton Mallet

Devon and Somereset Fire and Rescue Service receieved a call from ambulance reporting a road traffic collision at the above location.

On arrival the incident commander confirmed one VW transporter and a tipper lorry had been involved in a road traffic collision resulting in one male and one female physically trapped within the VW transporter.

Location: Moffats Drive, South Horrington, Wells

One fire appliance from Wells was sent to a vehicle on fire, called in by a number of local residents. Crews arrived on scene and confirmed the vehicle well alight. Crews got to work with one firefighter in breathing apparatus and one hose reel jet to put the fire out.
A second appliance was requested for water, with the second appliance from Wells being sent.
Crews damped down the fire and used a thermal imaging camera to check for hot spots. The cause of the fire was deemed as accidental.
