The East Somerset Railway (ESR) has been awarded £58,700 from the National Lottery Heritage Fund (HF) for a new project in Cranmore.

Made possible by money raised by National Lottery players, the project focuses on renovating and refurbishing the former 1858 station building as a museum, reinstating the second half of the "down" platform and making the heritage attraction dementia friendly via improved access arrangements and staff training.

New students from Shepton Mallet and Evercreech began studying A-levels and vocational courses at Strode College in Street this week.

Before they got down to work, they enjoyed the college Freshers' Fair, finding out about the many clubs, activities and interests they can enjoy while at Strode.

Avon and Somerset Police are appealing for witnesses following the death of a woman after a crash near Shepton Mallet.

The collision happened at about 11.55am on August 25 at the junction of the B3139 and the B3135, known locally as Burnt Wood Crossroads or Whitnell Corner.

There will be temporary traffic lights at the Commercial Road roundabout in Shepton Mallet for six weeks from next month for roadworks to take place.

Multi-way traffic lights will be in place from October 14 to November 22 inclusive at the roundabout where the A371 meets the A361 and the B3136.

Avon and Somerset Police need help to identify the man and woman pictured, following a telephone banking fraud where the victim was from Shepton Mallet.

The couple were pictured in Bath. The victim of the fraud – a woman in Shepton Mallet – received a call from someone claiming to be from her bank, who was with a police officer.

It will be placed under new management and relaunched

Cllr Helen Sprawson-White, chair of Mendip District Council, hosted a fundraising tea party in Shepton Mallet recently in honour of CLIC Sargent.

Cllr Sprawson-White welcomed guests including Mendip District Council staff and councillors, the chairs and mayors throughout the district, as well as representatives from CLIC Sargent.

Joe Morgan missed a good chance for Shepton in only the second minute but he made amends six minutes later when he opened the scoring following a fine Shepton move that saw Aaron Cockerill put Aaron Seviour in on goal. Wellington keeper Mitch Woodgate did well to save Seviour's shot but could only knock the ball into the path of Morgan's follow up run for the latter to confidently finish from 12 yards.
