News in Shepton Mallet

The East Somerset Railway (ESR) has been awarded £58,700 from the National Lottery Heritage Fund (HF) for a new project in Cranmore.

Made possible by money raised by National Lottery players, the project focuses on renovating and refurbishing the former 1858 station building as a museum, reinstating the second half of the "down" platform and making the heritage attraction dementia friendly via improved access arrangements and staff training.

Asa White scores the winning goal for Shepton

Shepton Mallet deservedly won their FA Cup replay 3-2 at Melksham after dominating the first half and then resisting the hosts' strong second half comeback, to earn a trip to Tavistock in the next round on 7th September.

Craig Loxton had two early attempts, a free kick that went well over and then a shot that was deflected for a corner, before Liam Watson headed Loxton's free kick cross just wide.

Shepton Mallet moved to the next stage of this season's FA Vase cup competition where they have a plum home tie against Street on Saturday 14th September, after a comfortable 4-0 win against Wellington.

Joe Morgan missed a good chance for Shepton in only the second minute but he made amends six minutes later when he opened the scoring following a fine Shepton move that saw Aaron Cockerill put Aaron Seviour in on goal. Wellington keeper Mitch Woodgate did well to save Seviour's shot but could only knock the ball into the path of Morgan's follow up run for the latter to confidently finish from 12 yards.
