News in Shepton Mallet

A national measure of how independent health care providers of NHS treatments are performing has identified Shepton Mallet NHS Treatment Centre as best in the country for primary hip replacement in the 12 months to March 2018.

Not only was Shepton Mallet first in the country for primary hip replacements, but the hospital was also in the top five per cent of providers in the country for primary knee replacements.

Location: A37 Long Hill, Ashwick near Shepton Mallet

The Fire Service received a call from the Police about a RTC at the above location. Two fire engines from Shepton Mallet and Wells as well as a rescue vehicle from Glastonbury were sent.
The RTC involved 2 vehicles. The fire crews used cutting equipment to remove the roof of one car to release one person. Police, Ambulance and local authority highways also attended.
There were a total of 3 persons involved in the incident, these were left in the care of the Ambulance Service.

Celebrations are underway at the Shepton Mallet NHS Treatment Centre, as two of its catering staff have passed apprenticeships to become qualified chefs.

Henry Stratford, aged 21, from Shepton Mallet, and Fay Stevens, aged 42, from Wells, have both passed their apprenticeships at Bridgwater Catering College and with financial support from the hospital. This means that the catering team at the treatment centre now boasts four qualified chefs.

Location: Old Wells Road, Leigh on Mendip, Shepton Mallet

Two fire appliances from Shepton attended a road traffic collision at the request of the Police, involving a car which had hit a tree. One person was trapped in the vehicle. Paramedics also attended and assessed the casualty while fire crews prepared to rescue the casualty and made the vehicle safe.
Crews used small tools to release the person, who was conveyed to hospital by the ambulance. Duty of care of the scene was left with the Police.
