Date: 04.07.2019Time: 18:17Location: Nunney Catch Roundabout, FromeFire Control received calls reporting a large hay bale which had tipped into the road, causing damage to a street lamp which had its wires exposed and was smoking and smouldering in the heat. A Fire Engine from Frome was quickly mobilised to the incident, upon arrival they requested a make pumps two for crew safety, and a second Fire Engine from Frome was mobilised to assist. Crews confirmed that a trailer carrying approximately 30 hay bales had toppled over and landed on a street lamp which was sparking. Fire Fighters managed traffic at the scene whilst they awaited for the street light company to attend and isolate the street light. Crews then used a tractor to remove the tractor, trailer and hay bales from the highway.The A361 was reported as being now open at 20:37hrs, with one lane remaining closed for lamppost inspection. Shepton NHS Treatment Centre, the first hospital of its kind to be rated Outstanding by the Care Quality Commission across all five of its criteria, has achieved the highest score possible in the national Friends and Family Test every month for the past five months, and an average score of 99.7 per cent over the past year.

All providers of health care are required to carry out the Friends and Family Test as part of the NHS' commitment to improving the patient experience.

Two fire appliances from Shepton Mallet and one from Frome were sent to a property with smoke issuing from the roof. The aerial ladder from Yeovil was also sent shortly afterwards. Due to the number of calls, the control room added a fourth appliance from Street.

At 1713 hrs, crews requested a further two appliances to assist. These were sent from Cheddar and Somerton. The incident command unit from Honiton was also sent.

For the first time Mendip District Council is flying the rainbow flag at its head office in Shepton Mallet to coincide with LGBT+ Pride month.

At a short ceremony today (Friday, June 28) Cllr Barry O'Leary, portfolio holder for enterprise and finance, joined with staff and councillors at the council offices in Shepton Mallet to raise the flag for the first time in the district council's history.
