Revealed: Shepton Mallet’s most Wikipedia-searched resident

An interactive map has identified the most searched-for person on Wikipedia from Shepton Mallet — and it might not be who you expected.

The map, created by The Pudding, replaces UK place names with the most Wikipedia-ed individuals associated with them. For Shepton Mallet, the most searched-for figure is the late actor Christopher Cazenove.

Born Christopher de Lerisson Cazenove on 17th December 1943, he was raised in Bowlish, Shepton Mallet, as the son of Brigadier Arnold de Lerisson Cazenove and Elizabeth Laura. Known for his distinctive portrayal of British aristocrats, Cazenove first rose to fame in the 1972 drama series The Regiment.

His notable roles included playing Charlie Tyrrell in The Duchess of Duke Street (1976-77) and Ben Carrington in the hit US soap opera Dynasty in the mid-1980s. Cazenove continued to find success on the small screen, with a recurring role in the British series Judge John Deed from 2001 to 2003.

Beyond television, Cazenove had a thriving stage career. He played Henry Higgins in My Fair Lady in both the UK and the US from 2005 to 2008 and starred in the West End production of The Importance of Being Earnest in 1994 alongside Susannah York.

Cazenove passed away on 7th April 2010 from septicaemia after collapsing at his home in London.
