Chance to celebrate the friendliness and independent spirit of Shepton Mallet

This week it's the second annual Shepton on Show, a unique event grown in Shepton Mallet.

The evening gives local businesses and organisations, whether on or off the High Street, the opportunity to market themselves in a fun, vibrant and theatrical way.

It aims to showcase the town's friendliness and independent spirit, and help to change outdated perceptions people may have about Shepton.

It will also give visitors a chance to walk the streets of Shepton and enjoy something you can't find anywhere else.

More than 30 shopkeepers, business owners and artists are involved in this year's event. They will be using shop windows as their stages and, as they will be behind glass, the event is naturally Covid-safe.

Last year's windows featured an eclectic range of performances, from mime artists and historical figures to Shepton Mallet's very own Fairy Godmother. This year - expect the unexpected.

The event will run from 6pm to 8pm on Friday October 23 and will include the length of the High Street as well as parts of Commercial Road, Town Street and around Market Cross. People can also use the opportunity to see the birds featured in the Shepton Bird Trail.

Last year's event featured a variety of musical performances outside. The organisers, from the town's Art Bank, have decided to focus on keeping this year's event as "behind-glass" as possible, so have decided against this element of the evening this time round.

Further information will be found nearer the time on www.artbank.org.uk.
