Shepton Mallet council nets £5k Tesco grant for park upgrade
By Laura Linham 11th Feb 2026
Shepton Mallet Town Council has received a £5,000 grant from Tesco's Strong Start Blue Token scheme to improve access to the play area in Collett Park.
The council was initially awarded £1,500 through the community voting programme, before being selected for an uplift to £5,000.
The funding was used to install a new rubber and stone composite surface at the park's play area entrance, which had suffered from frequent water ponding.

In a statement, the council said: "Our park is such a beautiful and well-loved space, and it's becoming increasingly busy, so we chose to invest the funding in installing a surface that prevents water from collecting at the entrance."
The project was completed in 2023 and aims to ensure better year-round access for local families and visitors to the Grade II listed park off Park Road.
Tesco's Strong Start scheme awards funding to projects across the UK through in-store customer voting with blue tokens.
