A fire in Alhampton, near Castle Cary, led to a tragic fatality.

Emergency services, including fire crews from several stations, paramedics, and police, were called to the scene on Monday, November 6.

A police spokesman said: "Early in the morning on November 6, we were summoned to a residence in Alhampton due to a fire.

"We can confirm that one individual was unfortunately found deceased at the location. While formal identification is pending, the next of kin have been informed. We are currently working alongside fire investigation teams to determine the cause of the fire."

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: "Following a call about smoke from a window in Alhampton, we dispatched units from Wells, Glastonbury, Yeovil, and Shepton Mallet, along with a ladder platform from Bridgwater. One of our engines became temporarily immobile in a roadside ditch, but this did not prevent our firefighters from reaching the scene and executing their duties.

The fire service used a range of equipment to combat the fire and prevent further spread, and they have remained at the property to ensure its safety for investigative purposes."
