As we approach this Remembrance Sunday, Shepton Mallet prepares to pay tribute to the brave souls who've made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. Residents will unite in honouring the service members from the British and Commonwealth armed forces who fell in the World Wars and other conflicts, with ceremonies reflecting the town's deep military connections.

Join fellow citizens at The Cenotaph on Sunday 12, with assembly at 10.35am, before the parade begins at 10.45am.

Led by the Shepton Mallet British Legion, this parade will reaffirm the community's respect and remembrance.

The homage continues with a procession to St Peter and St Paul's Church for the 11.20am Remembrance service.

Post-service, in a reflection of community spirit, the Royal British Legion club will open at approximately 10.30am for a communal buffet – contributions welcomed – in a day that embraces inclusivity and reflection.

Children and families are encouraged to partake in these communal acts of remembrance, truly embodying a community-wide observance.

Additionally, this weekend is brimming with local activities:

  • The Shepton Mallet Antiques Fair will grace The Bath & West Showground from Fri 10 to Sun 12 Nov. A trove of treasures awaits at this collector's paradise.
  • For the environmentally conscious, Shepton Mallet Repair Café by Sustainable Wells on Sat, from 10:00 to 12:00 at The Art Bank Cafe, offers a chance to fix rather than replace.
  • Music lovers can enjoy a Tribute Night Double Header featuring The Phogues and Still Marillion, at the Pilton Club, Sat, 19:00–23:30, for an evening of iconic tunes and spirited homage.

Thinking ahead, Shepton Mallet's streets will be set aglow on November 15, 2023, celebrating the historic annual Carnival procession. The procession will commence at 7:30 pm, with a flurry of illuminated floats, spirited dancers, and vibrant costumes. The town will thrum with the energy of musicians and the crowd's cheer, making it a night to remember. Full details here.

As we close, a special thanks to the Bath and West Showground for their valued sponsorship of our newsletter, helping keep the community spirit alive and thriving in Shepton Mallet.
