Shepton hospital offers children walk-in flu vaccinations
By Laura Linham 21st Oct 2026
Children who missed their flu vaccination at school can catch up at Shepton Mallet Community Hospital during half-term. A walk-in clinic will run in the outpatients department on Thursday, 29 October, from 9.30am to 1pm.
The session is for children from reception through to Year 11, with no appointment needed for the nasal spray vaccination. Families should attend the hospital at Bucklers Way, off Old Wells Road.
Somerset's school-age immunisation team runs community clinics alongside its school visits. These also provide opportunities for children who are home educated or otherwise not attending school to receive their vaccinations. The children's flu vaccine is usually given as a quick spray into each nostril. Vaccination helps protect children against flu and reduces the risk of them passing it to others.
An injectable vaccine is available for children who cannot receive the nasal spray. Families needing that option should call the Somerset immunisation team on 0300 323 0032 to arrange an appointment.
Parents with questions about their child's vaccination can contact the team on the same number. Full clinic details are available on the Somerset NHS flu vaccination programme page.
