Shepton Mallet dominated possession but somehow ended up on the wrong side of a 2-0 scoreline against Nailsea & Tickenham – failing to find the net for just the second time this season.
Player-manager Aaron Seviour had a golden chance inside four minutes but sent his shot wide. Moments later, the visitors took the lead as Jamie King rifled home from 15 yards to beat Owen Crawford.
Shepton almost hit back after 15 minutes when Charlie Walton – the standout performer of the first half – saw his header crash against the post. With Nailsea shutting up shop for the next hour, Shepton were gifted a lifeline early in the second half when Walton was brought down in the box. But Dylan Gould's penalty was brilliantly saved by keeper Glover, who guessed right and kept his side in front.
Shepton kept pushing, with Jacob Sloggett weaving through defenders only to see his pass to Walton just miss the target. Another big chance went begging on 70 minutes when a Shanley free-kick fell to Charlie Bateson, who fired wide.
Then, disaster struck. With 11 minutes left, Nailsea doubled their lead when Charlie Saunders ghosted in at the far post to nod home a free kick from Miles Hardidge.
Shepton had more chances late on, with Matt Morris and Josiah McKayle both going close – the latter seeing his shot smack against the post – but it just wasn't their day.
The sponsors named Monty Burgess as Man of the Match, with Walton and Harry Rutty also impressing.
The first team return to home action on Saturday, 15 February (KO 3pm) against Bridgwater United.
