Shepton Mallet earned a hard-fought point in an entertaining 1-1 draw against Ivybridge Town, with the visitors putting in a strong first-half performance before Shepton rallied after the break.

The match started with early drama as Ivybridge nearly scored in the second minute. Sean Thomson's powerful strike looked destined for the bottom corner, but Shepton keeper Owen Crawford made a sensational save to keep it out. Just minutes later, Shepton struck first. Dylan Gould's clever run into the box was halted by Ivybridge keeper Jordan Duffey, resulting in a penalty. Charlie Bateson stepped up and calmly converted to give the home side an early advantage.

Ivybridge responded well, taking the game to Shepton and creating several chances. Crawford was kept busy, showing assured handling and making key interventions. The visitors found their equaliser in the 38th minute when Thomson capitalised on a cleared ball to fire a low shot into the net.

After the break, Shepton stepped up their game and took control of the second half. Bateson worked tirelessly up front, while Cam Allen looked lively with some dangerous runs and crosses, one of which skimmed the Ivybridge crossbar. Shots from Corey Stock and Ethan Witchell were blocked as Shepton pushed for a winner. Despite dominating possession, the home side couldn't find a way past Duffey, who remained solid in the Ivybridge goal.

The final moments saw Ivybridge threaten once again, with Thomson's stoppage-time effort clipping the top of the bar. Both sides defended resolutely in the closing stages to ensure the points were shared.

Sponsors awarded Man of the Match to Owen Crawford for his outstanding performance, with notable contributions from Harry Rutty and Cam Allen.

Fans can now look forward to Shepton's last home game of the year, a derby against Street FC on Saturday 21st December (KO 3pm). Street supporters are organising a charity walk, the "March to the Mallet," starting at The Tannery in Street at 9am, with proceeds going to 2 Wish. Shepton will also donate their raffle proceeds to the cause, making it a special day on and off the pitch.

The day will also feature a "Special Raffle" draw for a PGA golf experience at 6pm in the clubhouse. Tickets are still available for those looking to end the year with a festive treat.

Shepton will conclude their 2024 campaign with an away fixture against Welton Rovers on Boxing Day (KO 1pm). Fans will hope for another strong performance to cap off the year.
