Shepton High Street drinking problems ease as police report no further calls
By Laura Linham 5th Oct 2026
Police say street drinking problems in Shepton Mallet High Street have improved, with no further calls received about the issue.
The neighbourhood policing team said it was hopeful the problem had been resolved, but would continue monitoring the area over the coming weeks.
In an update published on 1 October, the team said: "We are pleased to report that this issue has considerably improved in the High Street, with no further calls received."
Street drinking was made a neighbourhood policing priority in August after officers reported an increase in associated anti-social behaviour and concerns among residents.
The team planned additional foot patrols whenever operationally possible, with officers and PCSOs speaking to those involved and taking action where necessary.
An August update reported a reduction in the problem. By early September, police said complaints had stopped, although patrols would continue.
Residents are still being asked to report any further incidents so officers can monitor the situation.
Reports can be made through the Avon and Somerset Police website or by calling 101. Information can also be passed anonymously through Crimestoppers.
