All aboard the Junior Express: New club for young train buffs!

By Chris Kelly 3rd Nov 2023

The Bath and West Railway, located at the Shepton Showground, has announced the launch of a new Sunday club aimed at young railway enthusiasts. Starting in November, the club will open its doors to juniors aged 13 and over on the first Sunday of every month.

In a move to spark interest in railway operations among the youth, the club will offer hands-on experience with their locomotive fleet. Depending on their age and capabilities, club members will have the opportunity to run one of the three locomotives owned by the club: 'Centaur,' an electric locomotive; 'Shepton,' a diesel locomotive; and 'Mendip,' a steam locomotive.

The initiative will be exclusive to junior members, with no regular club attendees present, except for the instructors who will provide guidance and teach the juniors the intricacies of locomotive handling.

The club has opened five spots for this unique experience on Sunday, November 5, marking it as a first of its kind for the club. Those interested in joining the adventure on the rails must send their applications via email to [email protected] to secure a place.
