What's On in Shepton Mallet is brought to you by the Bath & West Showground — home to the biggest events in Somerset — and La Bella Italian Restaurant.

And if you've got an event that isn't listed here, don't panic – you can nub your event for free right here.

Shepton's heading for full festive mode, with the town centre lights switch-on, markets, music and the yearly attempt to work out where everyone's going to park. Here's what's happening between 27 November and 4 December.

Kicking things off on Thursday 27 November, Shepton hosts Strode College's Rock & Pop Showcase at The Art Bank — free entry, loud guitars, proud parents and the kind of unfiltered enthusiasm that only students (and caffeine) can provide. Running from the same day through to Saturday is the Bath & West's Stitching4All Show, where quilters, crafters and Christmas-preppers gather to buy more fabric than their cupboards can reasonably hold.

On Friday 28 November, the White Hart in Wells hosts Wells Electronic Music Open Mic — a night for synth lovers, beat-makers and anyone who still has a soft spot for their first keyboard. Over in Glastonbury, the Carers Group meets at Brunel Glastonbury Care Home, offering a relaxed drop-in for anyone navigating the realities of caring.

Saturday 29 November is where the fun properly explodes. From today until 2 December, Glastonbury Galleries opens its Mega Art Sale — ideal for picking up original artwork, handmade gifts or a statement piece you'll have to politely justify to visitors for years. Glastonbury town centre then goes full festive takeover with the Frost Fayre 2025, packing the streets with stalls, performers, live music and the 5 pm switch-on moment everyone pretends they haven't been waiting for.

If you'd prefer your festivities with a touch of medieval flair, Glastonbury Abbey hosts its Christmas market and Santa visits across Saturday and Sunday, complete with costumed traders, festive food and grotto bookings for small, excited humans. Street adds to the weekend with its chaotic-in-a-fun-way Squash & Racketball Bingo Night — the only place you'll find someone shouting "Line!" while still clutching a racquet. Wells also kicks off its Sparkle season from today — the illuminated garden trail listed on the Wells What's On page — turning the Bishop's Palace gardens into a glowing winter postcard.

On Sunday 30 November, Shepton Mallet takes centre stage with its Christmas lights switch-on. The town centre fills with food stalls, crafts, kids' workshops and live music from 11 am, with the main switch at 4.15 pm. Glastonbury Abbey continues its medieval market for day two.

The start of December brings a brief breather before Wells Cathedral steps into the spotlight on Tuesday 2 December with Vivaldi's Four Seasons at Christmas by Candlelight, listed on the Wells What's On page — ideal if you prefer violins and soft lighting to office party playlists.

Rounding out the week, a free taster dance class for ladies runs at Ston Easton Village Hall — the perfect low-pressure way to try something new. And music lovers get another treat in Shepton with Dan Donnelly & Jon Sevink (Levellers) + Hannah Moule at The Art Bank, bringing fiddles, folk-rock and the promise of a lively night.

If you're running something between the cracks — a lunchtime lecture, a wreath-making workshop or a wildly ambitious community panto — you can add it to the What's On pages for free.

Got something quirky, cosy or mildly chaotic on the way? You can add your event to your local What's On page for free.
