Billboards for a local drag performance have been defaced in Shepton Mallet, with faces cut out of posters in what organisers are calling a deliberate and hateful act.
The Absolutely Dragulous Show, set to appear at Studio24 in Wells, has had multiple promotional boards vandalised around the town. Organisers condemned the attacks and said the damage appeared targeted, not random.
"Promo isn't cheap," said co-founder and one of the leading ladies of the touring drag show, George Sullovan. "Those posters cost real money, real time, real effort… and to have someone destroy them for what? To feel powerful? To make a point no one asked for?"
The group hit back, saying they refuse to be silenced or intimidated. "If you don't like drag, don't come to the show. It's that simple…We're still going to perform. We're still going to bring joy."
A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: "We're aware of reports of posters being damaged in the Shepton Mallet area. Officers are making enquiries to establish what happened and whether any offences have been committed. We would encourage anyone who witnessed the vandalism, or has relevant CCTV or dashcam footage, to contact us on 101."
The posters were promoting a night of drag comedy, song and performance - and the event looks set to be a sell-out.
