Kidds Lane in Shepton Mallet is closed from 21 January to 2 February 2026 for National Grid cabling works, with diversions in place for safety.

A Shepton Mallet road has been closed for nearly two weeks as emergency works get underway to install new cables for National Grid.

Somerset Council has shut Kidds Lane from Tuesday, 21 January 2026. The affected stretch runs just east of Kilver Street—closed for 11 metres—and is off-limits around the clock until Sunday, 2 February.

Contractors Doocey Group Ltd are carrying out the dig, with heavy machinery on site and diversion signs in place. Emergency services will still be able to get through.

The council says the closure is for public safety while the underground cabling goes in. The legal order runs for 18 months, but the job is expected to be wrapped up on schedule.

Residents can check One.Network for full route info or ring National Grid on 0176 140 5100 quoting ttro445333E.
