Shepton Mallet show to host Shetland Pony Grand National 2026
By Laura Linham 22nd Jan 2026
The Shetland Pony Grand National will return to Shepton Mallet's Royal Bath & West Showground for the 2026 show, running Thursday, 28 May to Saturday, 30 May.
A highlight of the Main Ring programme, the high-speed spectacle features young jockeys aged 8 to 14 racing registered Shetland ponies—all to raise money for UK charities. Riders compete across the country for one of just 10 places at the London International Horse Show at ExCeL each December.
Each participating pony must be registered with the Shetland Pony Stud Book to ensure welfare standards are met. All jockeys must be under 5 ft tall.
The event has launched the careers of several top-level riders, including Champion Flat Jockey Jim Crowley, and professionals such as Saffie Osborne, Sam Twiston-Davies and George Wood.
