Shepton residents asked to shape climate plan
By Laura Linham 15th Jul 2026
Shepton Mallet residents are being invited to help create a community climate adaptation plan for the town. Somerset Wildlife Trust will hold a free Act to Adapt workshop at the Art Bank Café, on High Street, on Monday, 20 July 2026, from 6.30 pm to 8.30 pm.
The session is not being billed as a general climate talk. Instead, it is intended to begin the process of drawing up a practical community plan for how Shepton Mallet can respond to the effects of a changing climate.
Residents attending the workshop will be asked to work together in groups to discuss how the town is being affected and what could be done locally. The trust says the wider Act to Adapt process is supporting communities across Somerset to create and implement climate adaptation plans.
The plan-making process is focused on practical local responses to climate threats while also building community, supporting wildlife and improving wellbeing. Issues likely to be discussed include how communities can prepare for risks such as flooding, extreme heat and other changing weather pressures.
The workshop will last two hours, with drinks available to buy from the Art Bank Café and some free snacks provided. The event is free to attend, but Somerset Wildlife Trust asks people to register in advance through the event listing.
The Shepton Mallet workshop takes place at the Art Bank Café, 13 High Street, Shepton Mallet, BA4 5AA, on Monday, 20 July 2026, from 6.30 pm to 8.30 pm.
