Collett Park in Shepton Mallet has been awarded a Green Flag Award for 2026, officially recognising it as one of the country's best parks. Shepton Mallet Town Council announced the award on Tuesday, 14 July 2026, as the scheme marks its 30th year.

The park is one of a record-breaking 2,391 sites across the UK to receive the award this year. The honour is described as an international quality mark for parks and green spaces, recognising sites that are safe, welcoming and maintained to a high standard.

Shepton Mallet Town Council said the award was a testament to the hard work, passion and dedication of the team caring for Collett Park. The council said the park is maintained for visitors and residents to enjoy.

Paul Todd MBE, Green Flag Award Manager at Keep Britain Tidy, said parks were "essential public spaces" which support wellbeing, communities and the economy. He said investing in parks was "not a luxury" but a practical way to improve people's quality of life.

He added: "Shepton Mallet Town Council have shown what can be achieved when parks are properly supported and managed. As we celebrate 30 years of the Green Flag Award, we want every community to have access to green spaces like this that are safe, welcoming and maintained to a high standard. Congratulations to everyone involved."

The Green Flag Award scheme is managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under contract from the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government. It recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark for green space management across the UK and internationally.

Any green space freely accessible to the public can enter the scheme, with awards given annually. Winners must apply each year to renew their Green Flag Award status, while a separate Green Flag Community Award recognises quality sites managed by voluntary and community groups.
