Shepton Walks continues this month with a series of free, guided walks from the Market Cross in Shepton Mallet. The events are designed to bring the community together, encourage physical activity and shake off the winter blues.
Organised in partnership with Shepton Mallet Town Council, the walks vary in length and difficulty, with something for all ages and fitness levels. Participants are advised to wear weather-resistant footwear with good grip. Well-behaved dogs are welcome.
Upcoming walk dates include:
• Saturday, 10 January at 10am – A 6-mile "Beating the Bounds" route
• Sunday, 18 January at 10.30am – A 5-mile walk to Croscombe and through Ham Woods
• Saturday, 24 January at 10am – Another 6-mile "Beating the Bounds" route
The traditional "Beating the Bounds" custom involves walking the historical boundaries of the parish, often used to pass on local knowledge and foster community spirit.
