Shepton Mallet skate park and pump track ready for action
By Laura Linham 24th Feb 2026
Shepton Mallet's skate park and pump track are open and ready for action – with residents urged to make the most of the popular outdoor space.
West Shepton Skate Park and BMX track, run by Shepton Mallet Town Council, is located on Old Wells Road, BA4 5XN. The site is open to local residents and visitors and welcomes bicycles, roller skates and other non-motorised cycles.
The council says the area is maintained to keep it safe and enjoyable for people of all ages, but has reminded users to follow the bylaws, be mindful of others and practise safety while riding.
The pump track is designed as a continuous loop of rollers and berms, allowing riders to build speed by shifting their body weight rather than pedalling. The "pumping" motion helps generate momentum while improving balance, coordination and control.
Supporters say pump tracks offer a mix of exercise and skill-building in a fun, social setting. They are also seen as a way to get young people outdoors and away from screens.
Riders are encouraged to wear appropriate safety gear, including helmets and sturdy footwear, and to ensure bikes are well maintained before use.
The council has invited users to share photos of the park in action as the space continues to serve the Shepton Mallet community.
