Shepton Mallet Friday Market on the lookout for new traders

Shepton Mallet's Friday Market is undergoing a revival — and the town council is calling on local traders to help bring it back to life.
Since taking over the market from Somerset Council in April 2025, Shepton Mallet Town Council has been working to boost the number and variety of stalls. A raft of new traders has already signed up, but organisers say they're still looking for a few key additions to round out the weekly line-up.
The market team is particularly keen to hear from anyone who can offer pet supplies, baked goods, olives and antipasti, dried fruits, or homemade preserves and chutneys.
To encourage new sign-ups, the council is offering free pitches for the first three months. After that, a 3x3m pitch will cost £28 per week for casual traders or £25 for regulars (defined as trading at least 40 out of 48 weeks).
A spokesperson said: "We've already welcomed some brilliant new stalls, but we'd love to hear from anyone who can fill these last few gaps. Whether you're an experienced trader or just starting out, now's a great time to get involved."
There's also a call-out for buskers, entertainers and workshop providers to join the market and help create a lively atmosphere in the town centre each Friday.
More information and an online application form can be found on the Shepton Mallet Town Council website.
