Shepton Mallet free wellness sessions return
By Laura Linham 22nd Jun 2026
Shepton Mallet residents can take part in a summer of free wellness activities across the town in July and August. The programme, funded by Shepton Mallet Town Council, includes Tai Chi, Pilates, sound baths, menopause workshops and sessions at the Men's Shed.
The activities are aimed at helping people relax, recharge and connect with others while supporting their mental wellbeing. Sessions will take place in Collett Park and other locations around Shepton Mallet.
The programme starts on Wednesday, 1 July 2026, and runs until Monday, 31 August 2026. It is open to residents looking for gentle exercise, quiet time, practical activities or a chance to meet others in a welcoming setting.
Build a birdhouse or bird feeder sessions will take place at the Men's Shed, Unit 8, Charlton Estate, Shepton Mallet, BA4 5QE. They will run on Mondays from 6 pm to 7 pm on 6, 13, 20 and 27 July, and 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31 August.
Those sessions are for people aged 16 and over, with a maximum of six places available, so booking in advance is required. Organisers say the sessions are about more than making something by hand, with a focus on getting out, building friendships and creating a sense of belonging.
Pilates in the Park with Kim will take place on Tuesdays from 6 pm to 7 pm on 7, 14, 21 and 28 July, and 4 and 11 August. The mat-based sessions are designed as gentle, low-impact workouts to strengthen the core, improve flexibility and support better movement.
The Pilates sessions are open to people aged 16 and over, with different intensity options to suit different fitness levels. Those attending are asked to bring a mat and water bottle.
Tai Chi in the Park with Ruth will take place on Wednesdays from 6 pm to 7 pm on 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29 July, and 5, 12, 19 and 26 August. No booking or registration is required, and people are asked to bring a mat and water bottle.
The Tai Chi sessions will take place in Collett Park, offering a calm outdoor setting for beginners and those with more experience. They are also open to people aged 16 and over.
Sound Bath in the Park with Kelly will take place on 2 and 23 July, and 6 August, from 6.30 pm to 7.30 pm. The sessions will use Crystal and Tibetan singing bowls and a gong, beginning with guided meditation and gentle exercises.
Most of the sound bath session will take place on the floor and outside, so people are asked to bring something comfortable to lie on, blankets, cushions and water. Questions can be directed to host Kelly Knight from Rest & Reignite on 07931 509104.
Menopause workshops will take place on 21 and 28 July, and 4 August, at 10.30 am, with the location still to be confirmed. The sessions are intended to offer information, reassurance and a supportive space for conversation.
Shepton Mallet Town Council said the programme offers "something for everyone" and encouraged people to come along. More information is available through Hello Shepton's summer wellness programme page.
