Nine-year-old Harry Evans will take centre stage in Shepton Mallet this weekend — turning on the town's Christmas lights after beating dozens of entries in the annual card design competition.

His winning artwork, picked by local councillors and Charlie Bigham's, earned him the top spot at the Shepton Mallet Sunday Market Christmas Light Spectacular on Sunday, 30 November.

The event runs from 11am to 5pm with the official switch-on at 4.15pm in the Market Place. Shoppers can browse more than 70 stalls featuring local food, drink, crafts, vintage gifts and handmade treats.

Festive entertainment includes All Hallows Choir at 3.30pm and Shepton Mallet Big Band from 3.45pm leading up to the lights. The town's huge tree — funded by Charlie Bigham's — is already up and ready.
