Shepton Mallet crime jumps as violent offences top list

Police recorded 121 crimes in Shepton Mallet Town in January 2026, up from 98 in December 2025. The latest monthly figures show violent crime remained the biggest category, with 59 offences logged in January compared with 46 the month before.
The overall total rose by 23 offences month on month. Shoplifting also increased, from eight cases in December to 11 in January, while vehicle crime jumped from one offence to nine.
Other theft rose from eight to 11 offences, drugs from three to five and public order offences from five to eight. Criminal damage and arson stayed level at six offences in both months, while robbery remained unchanged at one.
Some categories fell. Anti-social behaviour dropped from eight offences in December to four in January, and burglary edged down from five to four.
January's figures also showed four anti-social behaviour offences, four burglaries, six criminal damage and arson offences, five drugs offences, 11 other theft offences, eight public order offences, one robbery, 11 shoplifting offences, nine vehicle crimes, 59 violent crimes and three other crimes.
In December, police also recorded one bicycle theft, two possession of weapons offences and one theft from the person. Those categories did not appear in the January breakdown provided here.
Monthly crime data can take up to 30 days to be published, meaning the January figures are the latest available snapshot for Shepton Mallet Town.
