Residential burglaries recorded by Avon and Somerset Police have risen steadily over the past three years, with 3,884 offences recorded in 2025, new figures reveal.

Data released through a Freedom of Information request shows 3,410 residential burglary offences were recorded in 2023, rising to 3,648 in 2024 and 3,884 in 2025 across the force area.

Despite the increase in offences, police attendance times to burglary incidents have improved significantly over the same period.

Nearly 11,000 burglary offences in three years

In total, 10,942 residential burglary-related offences were recorded between 2023 and 2025.

The majority involved burglaries of homes, with police recording:

• 2,436 offences in 2023
• 2,364 offences in 2024
• 2,612 offences in 2025

Other offences included aggravated burglary and distraction burglary, as well as burglaries of connected or unconnected residential buildings.

Police response times improving

The FOI data shows response times have shortened, particularly for incidents classed as priority calls.

For immediate response incidents, officers arrived on average:

• Urban areas: around 11 minutes in 2023, 11 minutes in 2024, and 10 minutes in 2025
• Rural areas: around 14 minutes in 2023 and 2024, improving to 12 minutes in 2025

Meanwhile, priority (non-immediate) calls saw a sharp reduction in response times.

Average response times from call received to arrival fell from around:

• 1,085 minutes in 2023
• 820 minutes in 2024
• 345 minutes in 2025

Arrest numbers fluctuate

Police made 1,830 arrests linked to residential burglary offences across the three years.

Annual totals were:

• 617 arrests in 2023
• 643 arrests in 2024
• 570 arrests in 2025

Police urge residents to stay vigilant

Avon and Somerset Police say burglary prevention remains a priority and are urging residents to report suspicious behaviour and ensure homes are properly secured.

A spokesperson said neighbourhood policing teams are increasing patrols and working with communities to identify offenders and reduce break-ins.

Police also warn that many burglaries are carried out by opportunist offenders entering through unlocked doors or windows, urging residents to take simple steps to secure their homes.
