Shepton Mallet is set to host a celebration of words next month with a series of events from Literally Shepton, featuring spoken word, poetry, and stand-up comedy across multiple venues.

The programme kicks off on Friday, 21 March, with Spring Tales, a spoken word night inviting storytellers, poets, and writers to share their own tales of hope and renewal to mark the Spring Equinox.

The event takes place at The Art Bank, with doors opening at 7.30pm. Entry is free, and those wishing to perform can book a reading slot by contacting [email protected].

On Saturday, 22 March, the Found Poetry Workshop – Spring Tales will take place at Shepton Mallet Library from 10.30am to 1pm. Led by poet Polly Hall, the session will introduce the art of "found poetry", where existing words and phrases from books, newspapers, and printed materials are repurposed into new poems using techniques like redaction and cut-out poetry. The workshop is free, but places are limited.

That evening, Stand-Up for Shepton takes over The Art Bank, with Raymond and Mr Timpkins headlining a packed night of comedy. Known for their fast-paced, surreal comedy and impeccable timing, the duo has been a fixture on the UK comedy circuit for over two decades.

They will be joined by Wayne the Weird, a magician and comedian delivering unpredictable tricks and offbeat humour, along with Richard James and Sandi Smith. The night will be hosted by MC Tom Glover.

Doors open at 7.30pm for an 8pm start, with an early bird discount of 30% available on tickets booked before 1 March.

For more information and to book tickets, visit The Art Bank or Shepton Mallet Library.
