Police are stepping up patrols in Shepton Mallet's parks and town centre following continuing reports of anti-social behaviour.

Groups gathering and causing a nuisance to members of the public have been among the concerns raised with the town's neighbourhood policing team.

Officers and PCSOs have already been carrying out patrols and speaking to people in the affected areas, but police say reports have continued.

Anti-social behaviour in the town was made a formal neighbourhood policing priority on Monday, 27 July, with more high-visibility patrols now planned.

The move means residents can expect to see officers and PCSOs spending more time in the town centre and local parks as they work to identify those responsible and prevent further incidents.

Police have not named the individual parks involved, but are relying on reports from residents to build a clearer picture of where problems are happening and when.

The neighbourhood policing team said: "If you see something, report it. Your information helps us target the areas and individuals involved in anti-social behaviour."

Residents are being encouraged to report incidents even when they may appear minor, as repeated reports can help police identify patterns and direct patrols to particular areas.

Anti-social behaviour can be reported to Avon and Somerset Police online or by calling 101.

Anyone who witnesses a crime taking place or believes somebody is in immediate danger should call 999.
