Pupils at St Paul's CofE Junior School in Shepton Mallet could soon benefit from a new modular classroom, if plans submitted to Somerset Council are approved.

The school, located on Paul Street, has applied for permission to install a single-storey building on a section of the site previously occupied by play equipment.

The proposed structure would provide an additional classroom and WC facilities.

According to the application, submitted by Christopher Stanley Architecture & Planning, the new classroom would be situated close to existing buildings but away from the listed main school building. The design includes timber cladding to add visual interest and is intended to blend with the existing school environment.

The application notes that the modestly-sized building would not lead to an increase in pupil or staff numbers. It is intended to enhance the school's facilities without impacting the use of existing playground or playing field areas.

Residents can view the full application and submit comments by searching reference 2025/0704/FUL on the Somerset Council planning portal.
