One of Shepton Mallet's most recognisable pubs is preparing for another new chapter, with refurbishment work now under way at The Thatched Cottage Inn.

The team behind the Charlton Road venue has confirmed they have started a full refresh of the pub, restaurant, garden and eight bedrooms ahead of a reopening.

The work follows a brief closure in August, when the previous management team left the business after holding a farewell event for customers.

The Thatched Cottage has been a familiar sight on Charlton Road for centuries. The main building is Grade II listed, with Historic England dating the house to around 1650 and describing its limestone walls, thatched roof and stone mullion windows.

Over the coming weeks, the business plans to share updates from the refurbishment along with menus, an opening date and more details about what customers can expect when it returns.

The team said: "We can't wait to bring The Thatched Cottage back to life and welcome everyone through the doors."

For now, no firm reopening date has been announced, but work is under way and the new team says more information will follow as the transformation progresses.
