A man is due for sentencing next month after admitting to several offences, including burglary and driving a stolen vehicle.
George Jones, 22, broke into a home on Cornwall Road in Shepton Mallet on the morning of 14 October. He made away with cash, clothing, mobile phones, and a car key, which he later used to steal the homeowner's vehicle.
Authorities swiftly obtained images of the suspect, enabling them to identify Jones within just a few days.
The stolen car was later seen being driven by Jones in Shepton Mallet on 20 October, resulting in his arrest.
Jones faced charges at Taunton Magistrates' Court on Monday, 23 October. He pleaded guilty to one count of burglary, theft of a motor vehicle, and two counts each of driving without insurance and a licence for the stolen vehicle.
Additionally, Jones, who has no fixed address, also admitted to two unrelated thefts that took place in Glastonbury on 26 September, which included stealing a handbag with cash and shoplifting alcohol from a store.
PC Jim Card, the officer overseeing the case, stated, "George Jones' involvement was quickly established by officers and the fact he was caught driving the stolen vehicle meant he had little option but to plead guilty to multiple offences.
"He has been remanded in custody and will be sentenced at Taunton Crown Court on Monday 20 November. We are pleased to bring the offender so quickly before the courts, and to return the stolen vehicle to its rightful owner."
