A team of paranormal investigators recently visited Shepton Mallet Prison, claiming to have experienced eerie noises, unexplained lights, and chilling encounters while exploring the historic site.

The team from Project Fear chose the prison as part of their UK haunted locations tour, describing it as the "most haunted prison in the United Kingdom."

The episode, shared on their YouTube channel, captured a night of intense paranormal activity, including disembodied voices, slamming doors, and mysterious light anomalies.

During their investigation, team members reported hearing loud crashes and witnessed cell doors moving on their own.

One investigator described seeing a bright white light appear on a prison wall, while another reported a sudden malfunction with their recording equipment, with audio devices shutting off without explanation.

The group also recounted disturbing historical details about the prison, which first opened in 1625. It operated as a correctional facility for nearly 400 years, with brutal conditions leading to a reported average life expectancy of just three to four months for inmates during its early years.

The prison also served as a military detention centre during World War II, where 18 American servicemen were executed.

Ghostly sightings reported during the investigation included a "lady in white," believed to be a heartbroken woman who died in her wedding dress the night before her scheduled execution in 1680. The investigators attempted to make contact in the C Wing, where the apparition has frequently been seen, but instead experienced what they described as electronic interference and unexplained noises.

Their experiences ranged from unsettling noises to sudden equipment failures, adding to the prison's haunted reputation.
