If you've ever wanted to be a real-life Fireman Sam, here's your chance.

Residents of Street and Glastonbury will have the opportunity to experience the life of an on-call firefighter first-hand at an upcoming event.

Wells Fire Station is set to host a 'Have a Go' taster day on 12th August 2023, providing an invaluable chance to gain insight into this crucial community role.

This three-hour morning session will start with an introduction and informative briefing about the role and duties of an on-call firefighter. Participants will then have the chance to don personal protective equipment and undertake a breathing apparatus guideline exercise, providing a taste of the practical tasks involved in the job.

Additionally, the 'Have a Go' day will feature a fire engine tour, offering a unique opportunity for attendees to explore the vital tools and equipment used by the firefighting team. Moreover, current on-call firefighters will be present to share their experiences and provide a comprehensive overview of the role.

A fitness workshop is included in the day's activities to help potential candidates gauge their suitability for the physically demanding role. Attendees can get hands-on with some of the equipment used in training and operations to better understand the strength and fitness expectations of being an on-call firefighter.

Those interested in attending the 'Have a Go' session at Wells Fire Station should fill out an express interest form. It's an opportunity not to be missed for anyone considering a rewarding and challenging role within the community. Remember to bring trainers and comfortable clothes for this enlightening experience.

Please note, due to safety protocols and to ensure a personalised experience, places are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-serve basis.
