A tragic collision on the A361 in East Cranmore has resulted in the death of a man, prompting an appeal for witnesses and dashcam footage from local authorities.

The incident, which occurred shortly before 6:40 PM on Wednesday, 17 April, involved a white BMW 1 Series travelling towards Shepton Mallet and a green Vauxhall Astra heading towards Frome.

The collision led to the death of the Astra's driver at the scene. His family has been notified and is being supported by specially-trained officers during this difficult time.

Authorities are also investigating the involvement of a black Ford Fiesta, which was seen travelling in the same direction as the BMW, to determine if it played any role in the incident.

The driver of the BMW was hospitalised following the crash. As investigations continue, police have reviewed CCTV footage and conducted collision investigation work at the scene.

The A361 was closed in both directions between Tansey and Nunney Catch following the incident but was reopened around 10:20 AM this morning.

Police believe several vehicles, including a green John Deere tractor towing a red silage trailer, were in the vicinity at the time of the collision. Occupants of these vehicles and anyone else who witnessed the event or has relevant dashcam footage are urged to contact the authorities.

Witnesses can reach out through the police online contact methods or by phone on 101, quoting reference number 5224098411.
