Children can visit Shepton Mallet Prison for free throughout the school summer holidays under a new family ticket offer.

Up to two children aged between five and 15 will receive free prison entry with each paying adult until Tuesday, 1 September.

Eligible children can also receive a free children's snack box from the attraction's café, subject to the offer's terms and conditions.

The prison says a family of two adults and three children aged between five and 15 would save £36 on standard admission prices.

Visitors can explore more than 400 years of the prison's history at their own pace, with much of the attraction indoors.

Guided tours and escape rooms are also available, although these cost extra and are subject to availability.

Charlie Lawson, attraction director at Shepton Mallet Prison, said: "Parents are always looking for something different to do during the summer holidays, and we know family days out can quickly become expensive. We wanted to make it easier for more families to experience Shepton Mallet Prison together, whether they're local to Somerset or visiting the area.

"It's somewhere children can explore, ask questions and discover stories they probably wouldn't come across anywhere else. We often hear from parents that it's one of the places their children keep talking about long after the visit, and that's exactly what we'd hope for from a family day out."

Tickets can be booked through the Shepton Mallet Prison website or bought on arrival, subject to availability.

Shepton Mallet Prison is open daily from 10am until 5pm. Well-behaved dogs are also allowed inside.
