A by-election for a council seat in Somerset is scheduled for next month, with three candidates vying for the position.

Castle Cary residents will head to the polls on Thursday, August 10, to select a new councilor in the wake of Cllr Mike Lewis's passing in May.

The prospective county councillors on the ballot are David Hall, representing the Conservative and Unionist Party, Ewan William George Jones for the Green Party, and Kevin Messenger of the Liberal Democrats.

Individuals intending to cast their votes in person at a polling station are required to present photo identification. Acceptable forms of ID include a passport, driving license, or an older person's bus pass.

Even if your photo ID is expired, it can still be used as long as the photo resembles you, and the name matches the one used to register as a voter.

Those lacking suitable ID can apply for a Voter Authority Certificate (VAC), a free document, until 5pm on Wednesday, August 2. Applications can be submitted online, via mail, or in person. Assistance and advice can be sought from the Somerset Council elections team at 01935 462383.
