Emma Fisher, a 50-year-old Olympic triathlete, has battled her way back to fitness after being severely affected by Covid-19 in March 2020.
Now, with the help of Somerset Health Practice and Origin Oxygen, she's ready to compete in a triathlon in Canada in just four weeks.
Emma, who also serves as an athletic mentor and coach, faced debilitating symptoms post-Covid that threatened her sporting career. Despite training six days a week, she struggled for breath and frequently fell ill.
"I couldn't breathe in enough air and kept getting ill. I train six days a week, but when I ran, my lungs were struggling and my quad muscles terribly painful. When cycling, I felt I would run out of oxygen. I couldn't understand why it was such hard work and contemplated giving up," Emma recalled.
Desperate for solutions, Emma was recommended hyperbaric oxygen therapy by an athlete she mentors. This led her to Matthew at Somerset Health Practice, who has been instrumental in her recovery.
"Matthew was calm, confident and delightful - and I really liked his holistic, comprehensive approach to healing," she said.
After undergoing one or two sessions a week for four weeks in the hyperbaric oxygen chamber, Emma already notices significant improvements in her health. "My red blood cells are better, my recovery after training is quicker and I finally feel that I can make it in my sport," she enthusiastically shared.
Matthew also introduced Emma to additional treatments, including a herbal formula to improve her lung capacity and laser therapy for her old sporting injuries. "I think this combination of treatments that he offers is really amazing. I honestly feel that if someone came to him with any ailment, he could help!" Emma added.
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is still relatively unknown, especially in the athletic community, making Emma's recovery all the more noteworthy. "I wonder now why I'd never heard of hyperbaric oxygen and why no doctor had ever mentioned it. I certainly wish I'd known earlier how much good it can do!"
