Shepton Mallet thrash Welton Rovers as they steam into next round of FA Vase

Shepton Mallet made short work of Welton Rovers with a devastating 20minute blitz before halftime, booking their place in the next round of the FA Vase.
After a cagey opening, Shepton exploded. Ben Snell was on hand first, thumping home a 15yard volley after Ben Smell's dummy flicked on a cross from Cam Allen. A minute later Allen converted a spotkick when Snell was tripped in the box.
Around the halfhour mark, Assan Sowe grabbed number three, running onto a fine throughball from Monty Burgess and placing his shot into the far corner. Snell made it four with an unstoppable 20yard shot moments later, before Sowe struck again just minutes before the break to make it five.
The second half was more lowkey. Shepton made changes, resting key players ahead of their next fixture. Welton fought back in spells and tested Shepton keeper Owen Crawford, but were unable to reduce the deficit. Shepton had chances late on too — a header hit the crossbar, and Williams made several good saves — but the result was never in doubt.
Attendance was around 85. This win marks Shepton's joint biggest victory in the Vase and their first time reaching the FA Vase 1st Round in five years. Next up, Shepton host Corsham on 18 October.
