Shepton won 3-1 on penalties

MALLET produced the performance of the season to date to come through Saturday's (12 September) Isuzu FA Vase Second Round Qualifying clash.

After 45 minutes the scoreline was 0-0 with very few chances for both teams. That said the visitors hit the post on 36 minutes and were awarded a penalty just before the half time interval. Once again their attempt hit the post.

On 55 minutes Nailsea managed to break through and score the first goal of the game. Shepton's manager Craig Loxton made several substitutions and this paid off, when on 63 minutes Tom Ovigne scored with a wonderful shot into the top right corner.

The woodwork was in Mallet's favour on 73 minutes when another attempt by Nailsea struck the bar. The score remained at 1-1 at full time. As it was a Cup game the result had to be settled by penalties on the evening. After two penalties by both teams, the score was 2-1 to the home side, Charlesworth saving Nailsea's first attempt. The third attempt was crucial for Nailsea, but Charlesworth saved yet again.

Shepton will now progress to the next round and be grateful to the woodwork and yet another wonderful performance by Harry Charlesworth, a very young and talented keeper.
