Clevedon Town 7, Shepton Mallet 0

IT proved a woeful Wednesday for Mallet when they travelled to early season Jewson Western League Premier Division contenders Clevedon this evening (16 September).

Mallet travelled on the back of Saturday's FA Vase win against Nailsea United, which has earned them a home First Round Proper tie against league rivals Brislington (scheduled for Saturday 10 October) but things started badly for the visitors as they conceded an early goal, then gave away a penalty which was converted and had to make a change when Harry Barter came off, being replaced by Joel Smith.

However, with the help of some saves from the increasingly impressive young keeper Harry Charlesworth the damage was limited to 2-0 at the break – leaving hope for some sort of second half revival.

However, it failed to materialise and the home side ran riot after the break, with their third goal coming from another penalty. More goals followed and the misery mounted with a hat-trick of spot kicks making up Town's sixth goal and the ultimate indignity of a seventh goal in the closing stages.

Mallet will look to bounce back when they travel to seventh-placed Tavistock Association on Saturday (19 September).
