Wanted: Two New Councillors to Help Shape Shepton Mallet's Future

Residents of Shepton Mallet are being invited to step up and represent their community, as two town council seats—one in Shepton East and one in Shepton West—have become vacant following recent resignations.
Shepton Mallet Town Council is calling on passionate locals to consider standing for election and help influence the town's future. From shaping public services and planning decisions to supporting events and green spaces, councillors play a vital role in ensuring the town reflects the needs and values of its residents.
To be eligible, candidates must be over 18 and meet one of several criteria, including living, working, or owning property in or near Shepton Mallet within the past 12 months. British, Commonwealth, and EU citizens are all eligible to apply.
Nomination packs can be downloaded from the Somerset Council website or collected in person from the council office. Completed forms must be hand-delivered to the Returning Officer at Somerset Council Offices on Cannards Grave Road by Friday, 20 June.
If more than two people come forward, a public election will be held on Thursday, 17 July, giving residents a chance to vote for who they want representing them at the council table.
For general questions about the role or help accessing nomination forms, contact the Town Council on 01749 343984 or email [email protected].
