The Mid-Somerset Showground will be transformed into a hub of nostalgia and celebration next month as the community comes together to mark VE Day.

Taking place on Thursday 8 May from 7pm, the event promises an evening of live music, family fun, and a poignant tribute as part of the nationwide beacon lighting ceremony.

Organised by the Mid-Somerset Agricultural Society, the free celebration is open to all and aims to honour the historic occasion in true wartime spirit.

"We're delighted to invite everyone to our VE Day Celebration," organisers said. "We've planned a wonderful line-up for all ages."

The evening's entertainment includes live music, a licensed bar, ice cream, face painting, and plenty to keep history buffs and classic car enthusiasts happy. Visitors can also enjoy fish and chips, classic cars and vintage military vehicles, with a prize on offer for the best turned-out vehicle.

Attendees are encouraged to dress the part, with a fancy dress prize for the best 1940s-inspired outfit.

The highlight of the evening will be the beacon lighting ceremony, as communities across the UK unite in a powerful moment of remembrance for Victory in Europe Day.

"There's no need to pre-book – just turn up," organisers added. "Car parking is on site, and the event is completely free to attend."

All classic cars aged 25 years or older, and vintage military vehicles, are welcome to join the display.
