Shepton Mallet’s outdone itself this week with a lineup that covers everything from spinning vinyl to spinning tyres. Whether you’re heading to the Art Bank for cabaret and crochet, the Showground for off-road antics, or just wandering through the Sunday Market with a snack in hand, Shepton is offering up entertainment with just the right amount of eccentricity — as always.

Things kick off in Glastonbury on Friday evening with the Pagan Moot at Beckets Inn. This time, the talk is all about the ancient temples of Malta — possibly older than the pyramids, definitely older than your Wi-Fi router. Bliss will be leading a deep dive into cosmic alignments, myth and Maltese folklore. Doors open at 7.30pm, with the talk starting at 8pm. Donations are welcome, opinions even more so.

Meanwhile, over in Shepton Mallet, little ones can get their hands dirty at the Parent & Toddler Group. It's all about that forest school ethos: think pond dipping, nature crafts, and a mud kitchen that makes your kitchen look like a showroom. Sessions are £8, concessions available, and grandparents are absolutely welcome to join the chaos.

If you prefer your activities a bit more serene (and indoors), there's a free photography exhibition at The Bishop's Palace in Wells. Artist Joe Gilmer has taken the traditional beauty of the palace and added a digital twist — some of his images have already been turned into postcards, just in case your fridge needs new magnets.

Friday night belongs to DJ Matt Ettle at The Art Bank in Shepton. Expect disco classics, weirdly wonderful floor-fillers, and a crowd that knows how to have a good time. Tickets are £5, or £8 if you're bringing a mate.

Saturday is jam-packed. Wells Tennis Club is hosting a Free Tennis Open Day, with coaching for kids in the morning and adults in the afternoon. Fancy yourself the next Emma Raducanu? Now's your chance to find out — no judgement if your serve lands on the next court.

Over at Wookey Hole, the stage is set for The Talent Show. Doors open at 6pm, performances at 6.30pm, and the lineup is bursting with local stars. Expect a healthy dose of drama, a few surprises, and probably someone belting out Adele whether you like it or not.

Prefer quizzing to crooning? Wells Town Hall is the place to be for the Foodbank Quiz — a proper pub-style showdown to raise money for a good cause. Team names that are clever, punny or deeply regrettable encouraged.

If your idea of a good time involves off-road tracks, camping gear and the unmistakable sound of revving engines, The Great British Land Rover Show at the Bath & West Showground is your weekend sorted. It's open Saturday and Sunday, with off-road driving, live music, bars, parts, and possibly the UK's largest congregation of grown men comparing tyre treads.

Back at The Art Bank on Saturday night, LIFECRAFT takes over with a cabaret-meets-crochet fundraiser for SWEDA. Live music, spoken word, and enough yarn-based art to confuse your gran — it's all happening, and all for a good cause.

Sunday brings Tower Tours at St Peter and St Paul's Church in Shepton, where you can climb to the top for views that make the leg burn worth it. You'll also get a glimpse of the ringing chamber and belfry if you're the curious sort.

Or take it down a notch and head into town for the Shepton Mallet Sunday Market. It's got everything from antiques and artwork to street food and live vinyl DJ sets from The Art Bank collective. Expect great finds, great music and a few great excuses to stay out longer than planned.

Finally, if you're in the mood to get civic, Tuesday 29 April brings Community Solution Seekers to Ashwick & Oakhill Village Hall. It's an open invite to anyone interested in improving health and wellbeing in the local area — no need for qualifications, just ideas and a bit of optimism. Refreshments will be on hand to sweeten the deal.
